70-year-old hunter shoots, kills mama bear that bit him in France

A hunter shot and killed a mama bear that attacked him as he looked for wild boar in southern France on Sunday, in line with native officers.

The man, 70, sustained a “serious leg injury” after a feminine brown bear who was along with her cubs pounced on him in the mountains of the southwestern prefecture of Ariège.

He reportedly shot the bear twice, killing it immediately.

The bear bit him a number of occasions, inflicting injury to the arteries in his legs. Another man arrived and was capable of cease the bleeding earlier than the hunter was taken to a hospital in Toulouse “in a worrying condition,” in line with statements from officers. 

A neighborhood council official in Ariège, Christine Tequi, mentioned such assaults have been “what we feared” since France determined to reintroduce the bears to the Pyrenees Mountains after their numbers plummeted in the Nineties. 

The transfer has sparked protests from native farmers, who say the bears assault their livestock.
